There are more people spending more time at Abbey Court due to Coronavirus. This is likely to continue for some time as we are instructed to work from home. The situation places demands on all of us. We are probably going to be more aware of our neighbours and their movements. Hearing their music, their conference calls, their radios and televisions is part of that, as is the occasional burst of laughter or the continued murmur of conversation. We cannot expect each other to tiptoe around and speak in whispers.
If the noise is excessive and cannot be resolved between neighbours then the correct procedure is to contact environmental health. It is not the responsibility of the committee members to police AC and it is unfair to expect it of them.
It should also be remembered that this a stressful time for many; those of us who are freelance are experiencing loss of earnings; we may also be anxious about family members who are at risk; the future of our employment. I would therefore urge tolerance. If your neighbours need to turn up the volume for half and hour and dance around the sitting room to restore their equilibrium, it’s not the end of the world.
